Another oil question- with a different twist

time will tell. since the spec'ed oils are different in composition and weight, one should be preferred or allow for greatest engine/after treatment effectiveness. Maybe the 502., 503., and 504/507 will all get you through the warranty period and that is considered good enough.

Well, CsTDI you started this thread with the thought that due to the decline of CR TDI's on the road in NA the market for 504/507 would end. All my comments here reflect the fact that many other engines and CR diesels throughout the world will still be using VW 504/507 oils and probably it will not become a scarce commodity.

Maybe Motul Specific 5W-30 will be available in Europe and other parts of the world just not here as with other Europen produced oils. It may never have sold well for them here.

As to it continuing here, I have no knowledge. Currently, suppliers are being told that specific 507. and 8100 x-clean+ is on a world-wide backorder until June.

A 504/507 oil would not be my first choice for a gasser VW in N.A. The low TBN isn't well suited to our high sulfur and ethanol fuel. I'd be more inclined to use a 502,505, or mb229.5 oil.

That may very well be but you and probably many others that agree with you will not change the fact that VW specs 504/507 for their gasoline engines.

Maybe come June you will be able to purchase the Motul oil you like.........only time will tell eh?

They also spec 502, which is what I'd use. Not only is it better suited to our gasoline, it's also cheaper and easy to find just about anywhere. M1 0w-40 comes in 5 qt jugs- that'd be my first choice.

I'm not disputing that and this thread is really not about VW gassers and what you would use in them, it's about the availability of 504/507 motor oil. In particular Motul Specific 5W30 504/507.

All I was saying was the OP has a concern about 504/507 oil availability not what oil is best in a gasser. No lynch mob here. It's just that your information has no bearing on the subject of this thread.
