Hey all, I’m new to the TDI game and just purchased a 2011 Jetta. I live up in northern Minnesota and it’s starting to get pretty darn cold. I was wondering if anyone has ever made a cover for their front grills at home and what they have used? I’ve tried searching the forum and have come up empty handed. Any help or if anyone knows where I can find a how to would be fantastic. Thanks!

I just use a garbage bag and fasten it to the grill with spring type paper clips. It's cheap and it works. Easy on and off. On our 2014 I installed some cardboard pieces behind the grill against the radiator. It worked but was not easy on and off.

try some foam pipe insulation from the local home improvement store.

make sure you have a way to measure coolant temperature.

Agreed, I commute about 20 miles in the same area as OP. Last year I tried this, not a HUGE difference, but helped overall MPGs by 2-3. Also, got much better heat, MUCH faster. As stated, though, have a way to monitor engine temp., and don't block air intake.
