Hi everyone. I'm the proud new owner of a 2014 JSW 6MT post fix. Just got the car two weeks ago and registered and inspected in MA last week. I'm interested in tuning the car and maybe adding some new injectors.

Have you seen deals on kermi tunes or other upgrades during BF or Cyber Monday? Id like to get aspherical mirrors and a tune, possibly new injectors. Anything else I should be considering ? I'd also like to get some steel wheels and a set of winter tires.

TIA

If it were me, and I were living back in the NorthEast I'd do things in this order:
1. Steel Wheels/Winter Tires (it's already Nov. 12!)
2. Asymmetrical Mirrors
3. Tune
4. Injectors - other's will have more knowledge or expertise, but typically you would only upgrade these if you were trying to inject way more fuel than a normal stage 1-2 tune would call for. This would be a good idea if you plan on going with a larger turbo swap, which would require higher amounts of fuel depending on the turbine you decide on.

Also getting a tune and winter driving sometimes can be difficult, especially if you're figuring out where the clutch engagement point is on your new vehicle in slippery conditions. When you add more power to the equation it's harder to feather the throttle and wheelspin could become an issue. Plus it always more fun to roll he windows down during the spring/summer/fall months to hear the turbo spool and really get all the sensation the added power gives you.

But to each their own, and congrats on your new pick up!

2. Asymmetrical Mirrors

Who’s mirrors and from which vendor? Just went from a 2016 Tacoma to a 2013 Golf TDI and let me tell you, there have been a few close calls already.

Yeah forget about injectors or nozzles, you're nowhere near that territory.

Depending on the snow/ice your roads see and how often, you may want to hold off on the tune until spring. Agree on good winter tires regardless.

I would have a look at the suspension, bushings/bearings/mounts and brakes. Depending on their condition you might consider making a big purchase while taking advantage of seasonal pricing. Even just to have on hand for when you need them.

Otherwise:
-- VCDS cable
-- monster mats
-- DoubleApex dual usb charger
-- S3 short shift mod
-- alltrac or aluminum skid plate (DieselGeek or Evolution Import)
-- Golf R bixenon headlights
-- stereo system

What do you recommend for a suspension/brake upgrade? Could I get the tune now and apply it in the spring? Would like to capitalize on any savings being offered.

I have monster mats. What about the short shift mod?

Skid plate is a good idea.

I'm pretty sure you can swap GTI or Golf R brakes onto the JSW. You may find decent prices on forums for those cars from people who have upgraded to even bigger BBK's. Note that you may need bigger wheels though.

What are your goals for the car though? I mean swapping to performance suspension and bigger brakes is expensive.

Another thing that I added to my car that I like are the Windesa sunshades, which are screens that pop into the rear windows.

Top on my list is to swap the Golf R HID's on, but I've been too busy and with the weather turning I may not get to it until spring. I'm intimidated by that mod because of the need to do VAGCOM programming and replace a BCM module. I was all set to go on it and then one of the headlights that I purchased used arrived damaged and I never regrouped and got them installed.

I think I'd be happy with the kermi tune and some other functional improvements like the HID lights, sunshade etc. Bigger brakea, sure but I don't have any problem with them now so I'd be inclined to leave them. I had a non turbo Subaru before but whenever something broke or needed replacement I would upgrade to a WRX component. I'll prob follow the same guideline with the VW, although a tune now since it will have an immediate noticeable impact.

ECS sells a nice pair of aspherical side mirrors, they are heated and tinted blue as well to help reduce headlight glare from behind the vehicle.

ID Parts winter fronts are a must in cold weather and if you do not have the intercooler fix applied. I run the lower cover all winter long.

Thanks for the info. I take it this means you don't run the upper cover all winter? When do you run that? What is the intercooler fix you are referring to?

I'll suggest an IDparts winter front. I have one, but haven't put it on the car yet.

+2 on the mirrors, forgot about those.

Cannot for the life of me understand why so many people recommend the winter fronts. I live substantially farther north. -40 isn't unusual; it's expected. I plug in the car at or below -10C overnight. I have full heat by the time I get to pavement (4km). The coolant needle stays pegged in the middle at 90C once warmed up, and never moves.

Regarding brakes, the 312mm rotors and calipers are the same as the GTI (by memory).

They're actually pretty good for what they are.

I got a good deal from idparts on some Brembo rotors and pads.

Next on the list:
.. s/s lines
.. Motul 5.1 fluid flush
.. TyrolSport bushing kit

Anything beyond that I'd look for a set of take off q7/t'reg Brembo calipers (17z) for a couple hundred bucks from the wreckers and run those. But that's a stretch for me as I'll likely never track the car. The TyrolSport brake booster bracket could be a tidy addition for someone who flexes the brakes a lot.

Suspension depends on your goals and budget.

KW is the best bet, but pricey.

Otherwise, Koni and Bilstein are a slam dunk, pick the ride height you want out of your springs.

Rear swaybar and endlinks are a good upgrade too.

Winter front is cheaper and easier to install. And cheaper to operate. I can't remember, do you get the frost heaters installed as a default factory option up there? Because we don't get that option in the states.

Regarding the tune, you'd have to talk to Kerma or Malone regarding paying up front and future install.

You might be able to do so by buying a Flashzilla and using it when you want, not sure how that would affect any 30-day refund/return policy.

Yes we do, part of the cold weather package I believe.

Thing is, one is a band-aide solution, the other precludes the root of the problem and eliminates cold start ups.

I do not plug my car in.

I run the lower cover not for cabin heat retention but to prevent intercooler icing issues.

If winter conditions are anything like in the Toronto area then getting it weather proofed would be a good option. Don't forget spraying the accessible areas of the engine and transmission to prevent that aluminum powder from forming. There are places that specialise in that.

I think he means get it undercoated with a product like Fluid Film.

I called a place to get this done to my pickup truck and they were already booked out for the year.

Find a good car wash that has heated underbody spray (the good ones should) and wash your car EVERY WEEK. It isn't the water that is the problem, it is the crap that gets sloshed up from the road that eats your cars.
