So....new to this particular forum but have been on Vortex for 10 years. Recently I talked my fiancé into her first VW. I’ve owned MK2,3,4 platforms and have owned many MK3s which I love. I built a Surf Green 95 Golf Sport with a VR6 swap a few years ago from a stripped shell. I love that car. However, I have to say that this wagon is ridiculously fun to drive.

I’ll post the entire story because it’s ironic how we acquired it as it was not planned. Well cared for is an understatement and it has a good amount of upgrades I’m still learning about since I know jack about TDIs.

A few weeks ago I helped a friend of mine and found him a TDI wagon that was a second owner car in excellent shape. I had never driven a TDI wagon and loved it. Totally stock. Had he not bought it I would have in a heart beat.

About a week later I woke up and happened to look on CL and saw another one in spice red in MA. All maintenance records since new CA/CO car for much of its life. A huge stack of paperwork. Kerma 150 tune, S7 turbo, refurbished head, southbend stg2 clutch, and a bunch of other odds and ends. All the work was done within last 20k also. The guy who owned it was incredibly nice and pretty ocd.

Today I refreshed the whole front end. New FAG wheel bearings, ball joints, control arms, inner outer tie rod assemblies. Did fuel filter, oil filter oil change, oil cooler seals, new shift knob and boot, smoked turns, leather GTI steering wheel, and a few other small items I replaced.

Nice looking wagon! These mk4 TDI’s are fun to drive. I kinda stumbled upon my wagon, too.

Was reading about diesel additives. Is it wise to run one all the time or just in winter? I believe the previous owner was running it all the time.

Put some 16” Beetle convertible wheels on the wagon. Much better. Got three almost new tires then matched the third one I needed off eBay.

Welcome to the Jetta Wagon world! I can say without reservation it's the best car I've ever owned, and I've had it longer than any other car. Bought new in '02, 389K miles now.

I have other cars, but this is the one I drive 80-90% of the time.

That’s a nice looking wagon. Looks to be in fantastic shape. I’m leaning toward getting another one for myself in the near future. I have two other VWs but this thing is literally such a blast to drive. I’m starting to think it’s more fun than my VR6 and FAR more practical.

I’ve been messing with VWs for a long time now and this TDI is just fantastic. I’ve always heard the stories about how awesome they are and now I see why.

Wagon has been great! Just put studded snows on, did timing, tensioner, hardware, water pump, cam crank seals, accessory belt, oil change and glow plugs. It got cold and been using the frost heater which is amazing.

Got an old school Yakima rack with bike attachments. Issue free through winter. Next I’m going to do a suspension overhaul and brakes.
